Planning engagement celebrations for friends gives you the opportunity to put your creative and hostess skills on show. An engagement party offers friends and family the chance to formally congratulate a newly engaged couple, as well as the perfect excuse for hosting a great bash.

Traditionally the bride’s family was responsible for planning engagement party celebrations, but now anyone who’s close to the couple can take up the duty. That’s where you come in – how do you plan the perfect engagement party?</p.

When planning engagement party celebrations, you should consult with the couple to decide what kind of a party it should be. Do they want a formal cocktail party or a relaxed backyard BBQ? Always consult with the couple when planning engagement party decisions like who should be invited and where and when the party should be held.

Keep in mind the length of the engagement when planning engagement party dates. An engagement party should be held at least six months before the wedding, so if the engagement is short, the bride and groom will want their party as soon as possible. If the engagement is longer you will have a few more months to plan.

When planning engagement party locations you might consider local restaurants, wineries, lounges and private rooms. Alternatively, set up a BBQ in your backyard or host a potluck dinner or cocktail evening in your home.

An engagement party can even have a theme. You might like to choose a theme when planning engagement party celebrations, such as “wine”, “love at first sight” or “at the Oscars”.

Planning engagement party celebrations for your friends is easy and fun. Don’t miss the chance to host a great party and help your friends celebrate their engagement!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it’s especially important before heading into an important meeting or strategy session. Corporate breakfasts kill two birds with one stone – you can fuel up for the day ahead while engaging with your colleagues.

Corporate breakfasts usually combine a breakfast spread with a discussion, meeting or presentation. Research shows people are more likely to show up to a corporate event that includes a catered meal. Corporate breakfasts are inexpensive when compared to a catered lunch or dinner (when you’re usually expected to serve alcohol).

When planning corporate breakfasts, you need to consider the layout of the room and the equipment needed. Most corporate breakfasts are served as a buffet, and one of the best room set-ups is to have rows of tables facing the front of the room – where a projector or lectern is set up – with the buffet at the back of the room. This means anyone wishing to get food during the presentation will have to get up; reducing the amount people will eat (the perfect tip for budget-conscious corporate breakfasts).

Equipment needed for corporate breakfasts include projectors, sound and lighting equipment, laptop computers, pitchers of water and glasses on each table, pens and paper (so colleagues can take notes), name tags, a speaker or presentation and, of course, facilities to cook and serve the breakfast.

If your company does not have a room suitable for corporate breakfasts, you may need to hire conference facilities at a hotel, winery or private building. Usually companies hire a catering company for corporate breakfasts, and your conference co-coordinator should be able to recommend a good firm.

Planning corporate breakfasts is easier than you think. With catering easily half the cost of a dinner service, a corporate breakfast is a great way to pull off a successful event on a tight budget.

When organizing any kind of party – like a 21st birthday, an engagement party or a 30th or 50th wedding anniversary, the first thing you’ll need to do is choose a party venue and decide on a theme for the party.

The theme for the party will depend on the age of the person/people being honoured and their guests, and the kind of event they’d like to hold. If you’re planning a party for someone else – your 20-year-old son or 60-year-old grandparents, you should consult with them first to understand their vision for the event.

Make a list of possible party themes – a laid-back BBQ, a beach party, a Mexican fiesta or a “back to the 80s” bash – and choose the one that sounds like the most fun within your budget. Now, it’s time to search for the perfect party venue.

The party venue sets the tone for the whole event. Whether you need an intimate room for ten honoured guests, or the space for a huge shindig, your party venue needs to house all your guests, decorations, refreshments and activities.

You can find a party venue in your local yellow pages, or by searching “party venue” and your area online. From community halls to historic homes to vineyards to specialist function rooms, you’re certain to find the perfect party venue for your theme, size and budget.

Once you’ve secured the party venue, you’ll need to finalise the guest list and send out invitations. If you have the time and talent, create your invitations in the style of the theme – seashell designs for a beach party, or a boom box for an 80s party. Make sure you include all the information about the party, the date, time, place and dress code.

Next, you’ll need to make sure your guests have plenty to eat and drink. You could cook a simple party spread yourself – nibbles, salads, sweets and slices, or hire a catering company to take care of it for you. Many party venue companies also provide catering.

Now all that’s left for you to do is hang the decorations, ice the cake, and get ready to party!

Congratulations! You’re engaged and ready to plan your wedding.

You’re excited, but beginning to feel stressed, too. There’s so much to plan – your wedding venue, dress, DJ, cake, flowers and getaway car – and you don’t know where to start!

That’s easy – before you begin shopping for dresses and choosing table linens, you need to find the perfect wedding venue to fit your vision of your wedding day.

Your wedding venue sets the tone for your entire day – whether you want a traditional church wedding, an elegant vineyard wedding or a casual wedding on the beach.

Once you’ve found the perfect wedding venue, discuss prices and plans with your vendor. You’ll need to set a firm date and pay a deposit.

Before you sign the contract, you’ll need to discuss the regulations and rules for using the wedding venue. For example, many venues require you use their table linens or won’t allow you to bring in a band for the reception. Make sure you’re signing on for exactly what you want!

You’ll also need to know how many people the wedding venue seats. If you have a rough idea of how many guests you’ll be inviting, you’ll know if the wedding venue is the right fit for you. If the space is too big, the wedding feels unfriendly. Too many people squashed into a tiny room will be uncomfortable and, knowing our kiwi summers, very hot.

If you plan on inviting guests with disabilities or dietary requirements, check the wedding venue can accommodate them.

When planning your dream wedding, choosing the perfect wedding venue should be your top priority. There are plenty of gorgeous venues to choose from, but only one will be perfect for you.

When planning your wedding ceremony, the first thing you have to decide is whether you want a religious or civil ceremony. If you choose a religious wedding ceremony, you’ll need to consult with your priest, rabbi or other Elder. They will explain all the necessary elements of your ceremony, and help you choose readings that reflect your relationship.

Be aware that with a religious wedding ceremony, you may be subject to certain restrictions – for instance, you may not be permitted to hang certain flowers or decorations in the ceremony, or wear a certain colour or style of wedding dress. Your ceremony may involve songs and prayers and readings and may take as long as an hour.

With a civil wedding ceremony, you have more freedom. You can choose the length of your ceremony, the number and nature of your readings, and you can even write your own vows. A civil ceremony can be as short as five minutes.

Writing your own wedding ceremony is much harder than you’d think. You want everything to sound perfect, without resorting to stereotypes. To help you, here’s a short guide to the basic structure of a wedding ceremony:

The Processional: The wedding party enters the wedding ceremony

Introduction: spoken by your celebrant. This might include a humorous story, or a reading for your favourite poem, book or quote.

Vows: Your exchange vows

Wedding Rings: You exchange wedding rings or other symbol of commitment

Wedding Certificate: The couple and their maid-of-honour and best man sign the wedding certificate. As this can take a few minutes, you may play some music or have a friend perform a reading to keep guests entertained during the wedding ceremony.

A Blessing: In a religious wedding ceremony, this usually means the priest or religious authority blesses the marriage. In a civil wedding ceremony, the couple might receive a blessing from the celebrant, their parents, or from everyone present

The first Kiss: This is most people’s favourite part of the wedding ceremony!

Recessional: The bridal party leaves the ceremony venue and everyone gets ready for the reception.

You can add your own flair and personality to create a wedding ceremony that suits you.

Workshops are ideal for training, open forum discussions, learning opportunities, presentations and brain storming.

Workshops provide an informal forum for a group to communicate freely and creatively to achieve an outcome.

Many businesses find workshops beneficial because they provide a platform for getting team members to participate and contribute.

Like any good event the success of the event depends on the planning.

Here are some tips for your next workshop

Clarify what you want to achieve in the workshop. It may be a question that needs answering, a problem that needs resolution, a new process or product that needs defining. It may be that you are looking for feedback from key people in your business. Define the goal and communicate what you are hoping to achieve so that participates are aware and prepared.

Choose someone to facilitate the workshop. Depending on the context that may be someone within the business or an external person. Whoever the person is they need to be able to clearly communicate the desire outcomes and get the group engaged to participate. A facilitator should have a plan for bringing the discussion back to the group so that they take ownership of the workshop.

Think about who will attend the workshop. Who are the key people in the business that need to be there? Who had the knowledge of the business that you need? Who are the best contributors.

Pick a workshop venue. Getting people out of the office or working space helps gets the creative energy flowing. A good venue will help facilitate a good workshop.

The venue should provide you with the equipment you need and take care of the setting up so that you can focus on the important jobs. Make sure you have the right equipment to communicate e.g. audio visual, microphones, laptop etc.

The less talking the facilitator does the better. Make the workshop interactive and engaging.

Work breaks and food into your workshop. The venue should be able to provide you with light snacks and refreshments to keep the participants energised. Timing is everything. If you are running a short workshop you need to make the most of the time you have. If you are running an all day event then you need to ensure people can absorb the information without being overwhelmed by it.
